Now named the Community Advisory Board (CAB), the purpose of having community engagement and participation is to bring together a representative cross-section of perspectives to serve in an advisory capacity to the Chief of Police by providing input on policy, technology, social issues, crime strategies, community engagement, department direction, and prioritization. The advisory group continued to advise succeeding police chiefs providing invaluable guidance and dialogue on complex issues concerning our community. Chief Steckler chose members from various disciplines and professions to act as a sounding board for department policy development, equipment acquisitions, and other matters of interest to our community. In 1994, Chief Craig Steckler (ret.) established the department’s first advisory group (the Citizens Advisory Group), which consisted of 20 members. Some of you may know the Fremont Police Department has, for many years, benefited from the thoughts, perspectives, and ideas brought forward by our community. If you’re witnessing a crime in process and during all emergencies, call 911. If you see something suspicious, call the Fremont Police Non-Emergency at (510)790-6800 ext 3.Ĩ. Be a good witness: collect suspect descriptions, vehicle descriptions and license plates, and wait for police.ħ. Do not confront suspects, as they may be violent. Home video surveillance can also help to identify suspects committing this crime.Ħ. Calibrate your car’s alarm to alert when it detects the vibration.ĥ. Possibly engrave your Vehicle Identification Number on the catalytic converter, which may alert a recycling center that it was stolen.Ĥ. Try to park in a location that is well-lit and overlooked.ģ. Park your car in a garage to ensure that access to your vehicle’s catalytic converter is more difficult.Ģ. Please help eliminate the opportunity for these crimes and keep your catalytic converter from potential risk.ġ. You will know right away it will sound like you don't have a muffler at all, similar to a motorcycle. A simple way to check if the catalytic converter is stolen is to turn on your car for at least 2 minutes.
